converted avi to FCP

My Mac stored some .avi files that originated on a windows pc, captured using a long-discontinued firewire card, the avi files play fine on pc. Now I want to convert the avi files to quicktime and bring them into final cut pro. Finally tried this avi converter, it has the output settings for final cut pro, and the converted video files can be worked fine in FCP.
